This article argues that granting immigrants democratic rights may alter the political narrative towards immigration. Immigrants with the right to vote constitute a group of growing importance in the Spanish electorate. We highlight the heterogeneity of the migratory phenomenon at the level of municipalities and develops a spatial analysis of the increasing power potential that the immigrant vote acquires in Spain. The territorial differences in the integration of immigrants, caused by the differentiation in the right to access to Spanish nationality according to origin, are pointed out, and the possible political consequences of such differentiation are explored. In the last part we analyze how political parties position themselves on immigration issues and how immigrants’ access to democratic rights shape electoral outcomes as a function of the parties manifested positions on immigration.
