RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITIONS - EURONCP project
 

The Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for two (2) Research Assistant positions to work on the research project "Europeanization of National Competition Policies (EURONCP)" funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Científico y Tecnológico del Sistema de I+D, Proyectos de I+D de Generación de Conocimiento, Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades). EURONCP investigates the observed variation in the Europeanization of national competition policies both in the European Union and beyond.

We are seeking candidates at the post-graduate/pre-doctoral level with a background in political science, in economics, or in law, and with a willingness to conduct both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis:

Position 1: Fluency in English, working knowledge of either Arabic or Turkish, and familiarity with one of the major statistical software packages, like R, SPSS, or Stata, are essential. Working knowledge of either French or Spanish is desirable. The work commitment is 20 hours/week, for 12 months, with the possibility of extension by up to another 6 months.

Position 2: Fluency in English, a good working knowledge of either (a) Spanish and Portuguese or (b) French and German, and the willingness to become familiar with one of the major statistical software packages, like R, SPSS, or Stata, are essential. Working knowledge of Arabic, Greek or Serbo-Croatian is desirable but not essential. The work commitment is 20 hours/week, for 6 months, with the possibility of extension by up to another 6 months.

The candidates will contribute to EURONCP by analyzing the evolution of European and national competition policies over the past 30 years. The specific duties will include researching and coding national legislation and implementation practices, writing up case studies, performing preliminary analyses of the database, and working on various papers related to the project. The candidates will also be responsible for copyediting and background research such as literature reviews, as well as minor administrative tasks.

The project has a built-in training and capacity-building component and is ideal for candidates who seek to develop skills and insights related to the conduct and design of advanced research projects. Upon successful performance, the candidates will be invited to co-author papers for conferences and journal submissions to support her/his career development. The starting date is flexible, but ideally no later than the end of November 2022. Remuneration is commensurate with a PhD grant under the Spanish government fellowship system.
