IPSA released a new issue of Participation (Vol. 45 no. 1, July 2026) on the 29th IPSA World Congress of Political Science. This edition offers a preview of what participants can expect at the Congress, including the theme, program highlights, the Local Organizing Committee, the Congress venue and practical information on travelling to Rome. It also introduces the distinguished scholars who have been invited to deliver the plenary addresses at the Congress.

Registration is open for IPSA's Regional Conference on the theme Resilience of Democracy in a Polarized World: Populism, Autocratization, and Global Challenges. This three-day conference will be held at the University of Wrocław in Poland from 14-16 October 2026. Register by 5 August 2026 to be included in the conference program. 

The application deadline for the French track of the IPSA-AAPS Africa Online Workshop Series (AOWS) has been extended to 13 August 2026. The AOWS is a new initiative designed to support graduate students and junior scholars at Africa-based institutions, offering interactive workshops led by experienced scholars. Don't miss this last chance to apply for the French track before the extended deadline. Note that applications for the English track will close on 24 July 2026. 

The second edition of IPSA's online Work-in-Progress Sessions (WiPS) was successfully held from 13-19 July 2026, providing members of IPSA's Research Committees (RCs) and Collective Members with a global platform on which to present and discuss their research in progress. During the course of seven days, 150 registered participants discussed 111 papers over 37 workshops on various topics, including populism, polarization and democratic resilience, democracy and inequality, global disorder, political elites, democracy in times of crisis, changes in the emerging world order, disinformation and human rights, religion and nationalism, and indigenous politics. 

IPSA participated in the 5th edition of the International Workshops on Public Policy (IWPP5), co-organized by the International Public Policy Association (IPPA) and Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, from 6-8 July 2026. Representing IPSA was Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski, who attended workshop sessions and held meetings with representatives of IPPA. During the event, IPSA and IPPA also renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), further strengthening the collaboration between the two organizations.

The 7th edition of the IPSA-ABU Summer School for Social Science Research Methods will be held virtually from 24 August to 4 September 2026. Designed for graduate students, academics, and professionals, the Antalya Summer School offers a unique opportunity to deepen your methodological expertise, sharpen your analytical skills, and expand your network in the field.

The 3rd edition of the IPSA-AECPA Summer School in Methods and Techniques in Political Science  will be held at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 23 September to 2 October 2026. Detailed information will be available on the Summer School website shortly.

The Political Psychology of Citizens in Rising China

1) Developed by the Euromedia Research Group (EMRG), the Euromedia Ownership Monitor (EurOMo) monitors media ownership transparency across the European Union. The platform provides a searchable database of media owners, a Media Ownership Explorer, country reports, a Risk Index, and methodological documentation. Researchers can compare ownership structures, identify cross-media concentration patterns, and assess transparency risks across European media systems using harmonised indicators (Research Institutes on the IPSAPortal). 

2) Supported by Google Jigsaw, the Global Database of Events, Language and Tone (GDELT) draws on news sources in more than 100 languages to monitor global events and media coverage in near real time. The platform provides the GDELT Event Database containing coded political events, together with interactive tools for exploring geographic patterns, media attention and sentiment. The updated datasets support longitudinal analyses of international crises, media attention, information flows, and political narratives at the global level (Special Collections on the IPSAPortal).

3) Developed by the AI, Algorithmic, and Automation Incidents and Controversies (AIAAIC) project, the AI Incident Database documents real-world incidents involving artificial intelligence systems. The platform provides a searchable repository of incident reports, including case descriptions, original sources and classifications, with filters by incident type, date and journalistic source. 4) The latest release of the Global Sanctions Database (GSDB) broadens coverage to include 1,547 sanctions cases imposed between 1950 and 2023. The platform provides downloadable datasets, documentation and interactive tools covering sanction senders, targets, policy objectives, instruments and outcomes. The updated database, featuring 223 new cases, enables comparative analyses of sanctions regimes as well as foreign policy instruments and their effectiveness across countries and historical periods (Research Institutes on the IPSAPortal).
