Els Casals Cívics i Comunitaris es consoliden com a espais clau de cohesió social davant la vulnerabilitat i la solitud

Diàleg: La importància dels equipaments de proximitat. Infraestructures comunitàries davant els reptes socials de l'època.

Els processos d'individualització, l'anomenada polarització, o la debilitat dels actors socials i comunitaris, s'acostumen a subratllar com a importantíssimes debilitats socials a l'hora de fer front als reptes centrals de la nostra època, com son el canvi climàtic, les fractures a la cohesió social en societats diverses, segregades i dramàticament desiguals, la necessitat de repensar l'organització social de les cures, o la debilitat de la democràcia.

Davant d'aquesta realitat, diverses recerques i pràctiques socials i institucionals mostren el potencial dels equipaments de proximitat per esdevenir infraestructures comunitàries amb capacitat per reconstruir vincles, armar respostes als reptes socials des de la proximitat, i enfortir democràticament la convivència.

Happy to announce the 4th edition of the Early Career and Doctoral Workshop on Comparative Social and Public Policy (#COSPPO). In this edition, the workshop will take place at Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona.

The Call for Abstracts it is open and the submission deadline is November 3rd 2026 at 23.59. In case of any questions, please contact socialpolicy@upf.edu

This workshop is addressed to early-career scholars whose research engages with aspects of comparative social and public policy and who would like to connect with an active community in the field.

At the margins of measurement: re-assessing the social distribution of disadvantage and welfare effectiveness through housing insecurity

Violetta Tucci presentó en Roma algunos resultados de un artículo desarrollado en el marco del proyecto WHOCOUNTS, durante la XIX Conferencia de ESPAnet Italia, "Disuguaglianze crescenti nella tripla transizione: le sfide per il welfare state".

Asi mismo, también coordinó, junto con Stefano Filauro (Universidad Sapienza de Roma), y Tommaso Frangioni y la profesora Giuliana Costa (Politécnico de Milán), la sesión titulada "Housing: affordability, wealth and everyday reproduction of inequality".

La sesión buscó profundizar el debate sobre la vivienda, analizándola tanto como un resultado de desigualdades estructurales más amplias como un factor que contribuye a su reproducción acumulativa.

Population Register Legibility and the Understanding of Migrants in Official Poverty Statistics

Jasmin Singh, doctoranda a l'IGOP i investigadora al projecte WHOCOUNTS, va presentar el passat 9 de setembre un esborrany del seu primer paper "Population Register Legibility and the Understanding of Migrants in Official Poverty Statistics" a la Swiss Network of Young Migration Scholars (SNyMS) Conference que va tenir lloc a la University of Lucerne.

Project GROW: Systematic Literature Review presented

Alexandra Seehaus, a postdoctoral Researcher at IGOP, presented one of the first outputs from the GROW research project at the 24th ESPAnet Conference, hosted by ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management.

Together with Luca Perego, she presented their Systematic Literature Review. As a first step in the project, the paper reviews research since 2000 to understand how institutional settings shape access to and use of childcare services, and why inequalities persist across territories and social groups.

GROW is a three-year collaborative project between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Politecnico di Milano, led by Alessandra Guglielmi, and represented by Lara Maestripieri from the UAB, as well as by Raquel Gallego Calderón.
The project examines how Early Childhood Education and Care services shape women's participation in the labour market in Italy and Spain.

HESS Project
The Dynamics of Healthcare Systems Segmentation: The institutional stratification of social groups in South America.

HESS  is a research project that investigates the emergence and development of healthcare system segmentation in twelve South American countries from a comparative and historical perspective. Healthcare system segmentation refers to the co-existence of different healthcare systems within a country, each targeting distinct social groups (e.g., public systems for the poor, social insurance for formal workers, private schemes for upper classes).
