This article explores the distribution of resources and incentives of political actors to influence Europeanized-related debates with a focus on government opposition dynamics. The goal is to explore the circumstances under which they have the capacity to set EU issues into the media agenda. This includes a consideration of which political actors are covered more intensively by the media and which factors influence their media salience. Existing literature has mainly focused on politicization over the European integration, the role of Euroscepticism and top-down approaches based on the political position within the European policy-making process. However, we still now little about how political actors, such as Europhile opposition parties, regionalist parties, executive actors strategically use the EU to obtain their objectives. The article draws on a database including more than 48.000 European-related stories published in the most read Spanish newspapers, El País and El Mundo, from 2005 to 2017.
